Mood Music - Wye Oak
Hey hey y'all,
No, I didn't die or fall off the planet or anything. I did get insanely sick last week and am still feeling the effects. Hence, no posts for awhile.
Bright spot of last week? Getting to see the always amazing Explosions in the Sky play at the Sound Academy. They are such amazing musicians and so, so good live. The opening band, Wye Oak, was really great too.
Bright spot of this week? Getting to meet a very cute little fella named Harvey, born yesterday. He is my nephew, but I'm not being biased here...Harvey is definitely one of the cutest babies ever. Yay Harvey!
Double ANTM recap tomorrow!

Emily

Mood Music - Spin Doctors
Hi hi y'all,
What a week! Busy, busy...lots of rain. At least it's Friday! I'm taking some vacation time from work today and next week. I'm hoping to get lots of house cleaning done, recharge my batteries and have lots of fun with my 'lil peanut.
Poor 'lil peanut is having a bad week too. He's got a lump on his head from tripping on a toy yesterday, and he's mega teething too. I took him to see Yo Gabba Gabba Live, and poor buddy was confused about why his tv pals were dancing live in front of him. Every time I tried to get him to dance, he would hug me tight. He had more fun riding the subway and eating a snack at Union Station than watching the show I think.
After his head bump and the concert and travelling all around, poor peanut had trouble falling asleep last night. He wouldn't let me or his dad put him to bed. I can normally calm him down with a little Baby Beluga action, but he wasn't buying it last night. I tried all of the kids songs I could with no luck. In desperation, I sang him a couple songs I know he likes to dance to...including Two Princes. It totally did the trick and he fell fast asleep. Thanks Spin Doctors!
XOXO,
Emily

Mood Music - Feist
Hey hey hey y'all,
Hope you're enjoying the slight chill in the air that's been creeping up the last few days. It's kinda fun to wear a jacket. I've been listening to CBC Radio 2 all day for the past few weeks and they've been playing the hell out of this song. It's totally grown on me.
Happy almost weekend! Stay tuned for an ANTM recap tomorrow evening!
XOXO,
Emily

Mood Music - Amos Lee
So, yeah, I'm back to working my 9 to 5...3 whole weeks so far. I obviously miss spending my days running around with my 'lil peanut, but I've enjoying a few aspects of my return to the working world. I can sip my tea while it's hot, my clothes stay pretty clean all day and I've been listening to lots of great music. I love you, Raffi, but after hearing you sing every day for 6 months it's kinda nice to listen to you only on weekends.
We've got a few driving trips planned this weekend, so hopefully I can sneak a little Amos Lee onto our car trip playlist, maybe between Baby Beluga and Bananaphone?
XOXO,
Emily

Can I have this dance? It's another beautiful day...let's go dance around and interrupt someone's video shoot.

Mood Music - The Felice Brothers
I had such a great time in the sunshine today. My parents watched the 'lil peanut so that I could run some errands, and it was awesome to walk around in the heat. I missed out on most of the super-hot days last summer, so it was rad to be outside and feel hot.
Hope y'all are able to keep cool! If you don't have air conditioning, make sure to drink lots of water and keep your pets as cool as you can! Don't forget the sunscreen!
XOXO,
Emily

Mood Music - Bon Iver
It's beautiful outside. The weather is absolutely perfect. Can't ask for a more pleasant day. I've already taken the 'lil peanut out for one walk, but I think we'll have to go out again.
I'm taking 'er super easy today. I'm totally about to have a quick nap (before 'lil peanut wakes up). Today is a jean shorts, iced coffee and reading magazines in the park kind of day for sure. I hope you find yourself on a patio or in a park on this fine Friday afternoon.
XOXO,
Emily

Mood Music + Hello
Hey hey,
Hope you're well. Happy Memorial Day to my US pals!
It's been a crazy couple of weeks for me. I'm not sorry to see the end of May. Lots of challenges, not very much sleep, not many posts (you may have noticed?). My husband's grandmother passed away last week. She was a fantastic lady, very well loved by lots of people, and she will be missed. Her passing was tough on all of us, even the 'lil peanut who had his routine disrupted by an 18-hour drive to the Maritimes and didn't get to sleep in his usual crib for a long time. Poor little fella is cutting his top teeth too.
So, yeah, May was a challenge but now I get to look forward to June. Lots to look forward to, including a trip to Ireland. I've taken a couple of days to re-focus, and will be posting lots in June as well. I've got lots of ideas and am excited to get to work.
Have a great week!
XOXO,
Emily

Mood Music - Faithless
I am a big fan of my 'lil peanut, but the hilarious fella has decided he doesn't want to sleep these days. We're up with him for a minimum of 2 hours each night. I used to be up at 3 on the weekends pretty regularly, watching tv and eating a snack before hitting bed after getting home from dancing. Maybe I should let the 'lil peanut dance in the night? He can dance to this song. Ah well, there's always coffee...gotta put my 'lil cranky pants down for a nap. Happy weekend!
XOXO,
Emily

Mood Music - Eliza Doolittle
Nothing like a sunny day to perk up your spirits. I got to sit on a patio and drink a beer today. Awesometown!
My 'lil peanut is really into whistling these days. I also love me a good whistling song. This song is too grownup for the 'lil peanut to listen to...but he's in bed now, so bring it on! Happy weekend!
XOXO,
Emily

Mood Music - Gorillaz
What a week, hey? It's still pretty cold here and I'm pretty excited for some warm weather to arrive. I'd also love to sleep for more than 3 hours at a time. Anywho, me and the 'lil peanut are just chilling inside waiting for the Good Friday Jesus parade to finish outside of our house so we can play outside in the cold. I'm a hockey widow this weekend (good luck to my husband at his tournament!). I treated myself to a pair of the H & M Swedish Hasbeens earlier in the week and have had lots of fun hanging with friends over the past few days so I can't really complain.
XOXO,
Emily

Mood Music - Phosphorescent II
So...I actually went to a show this week! Saw Phosphorescent at Lee's Palace and it was a really great show. I feel like it's been ages since I've seen live music. It's been more than 6 months anyway. Part of the problem is that I'm so lazy about checking the listings, and the shows that I want to see end up selling out. Godspeed...sold out. James Blake...sold out. Adele...sold out. Dommage.
I'm thinking I should walk my lazy behind across the street to the Mod Club in a couple weeks to see Battles, and then again to see Low a few days later. There are lots of great shows coming up in Toronto. Anyone wanna babysit a 'lil peanut?
XOXO,
Emily

Mood Music - Teen Daze
It's been a pretty hectic week! Lots going on, which isn't the easiest when you're running on a couple of hours sleep. Thanks to my amazing husband, I slept in crazy late this morning and feel super relaxed. He is made of gold! Must also give a shout out to coffee, my bff these days.
XOXO,
Emily

Mood Music - Chromeo
The Juno Awards are this weekend. I don't usually watch the Junos, but I prefer them to the Grammys at least. Drake is hosting the show this year and there will be a Bieber sighting, so if that's your thing you should watch for sure.
I have mixed feelings about the Junos. They seem kind of out of touch. Why would they nominate Caribou for best new artist? I have seen him like 8 times in concert, even back when he was Manitoba, and he's released multiple albums. Not new. They should just nominate him for Best Artist, as he's pretty great. They will probably nominate these dudes for Best New Band next year:
Oh snap, they were actually nominated for Best New Band in 2001! O Canada indeed!
Enough with the snark -- lots of talented musicians were nominated in the various categories. Best of luck to them, especially Chromeo. They should be nominated for Album of the Year (instead of Hedley...no thanks), but Best Dance Recording will have to do.
XOXO,
Emily

Mood Music - Yuck
It's gorgeous outside...I've had so much fun taking the 'lil peanut for walks all around the city. We hit up the Annex the other day and will be checking out the Distillery tomorrow.
I'm not going to lie...when I'm in a good mood I'm also happy to listen to songs like this. Gotta love warm weather, the weekend, partying partying and fun fun fun fun! We so excited!
XOXO

Mood Music - Elbow
Having a bit of a rough week...not sleeping enough and things are getting me down. I'm sure I'll be back to normal in a day or two. In the meantime, my plan is to fake it until I make it. Enough with the maudlin tunes -- I've got to start listening to more songs like this:
Best song ever! Starting to feel better already...

Mood Music - Plan B
The 'lil peanut and I have been dancing around for most of the day. Some days you just got to dance, yes? He likes to dance to Raffi, Blondie and this song. I make beeping noises over the swears, don't worry. Little fella has decent taste!
XOXO

Mood Music - Oscar Winners
Looking back over the list of Academy Award winners for Best Original Song, there have been some awesome choices over the years. I'm sure you remember that Eminem has won, as well as Three Six Mafia & Isaac Hayes (for Shaft!). Plus, Randy Newman...who has only won once! I feel like he should have won way more. He's been nominated 20 times. Maybe this year is again his year. Although, he is up against Dido...
Here are my top picks of Oscar winners for Best Original Song:
Christopher Cross is always my top pick! I hope they have him do an updated version of this song for the new Arthur remake...perhaps with Chromeo?
It warms my heart that Lionel Richie has also won. Yay Lionel!
Have you ever seen the movie Thank God It's Friday? I have...it wasn't as cheesy or as funny as I was hoping. If you like Jeff Goldblum, make sure to put it on your Zip list. Don't think it's on Netflix in Canada (big surprise). I hope that the packaging for the DVD mentions that it is an Academy Award winning film! It was a tough choice between this song and the theme from Fame. If Leroy had sung that theme, it would be my top pick for sure!

Mood Music - George Benson
Woooooot! It's almost the long weekend! I'm starting early with a mug of tea and some mellow sounds. I might even be extra sassy and bust open some Raincoast Crisps, maybe with a little goat cheese? Maybe check out the end of Tati's Mon Oncle that's saved on the PVR? Why not? Oh yeah...'lil peanut still doesn't know from long weekends. Back to playing with blocks & puppets!
XOXO

Mood Music - James Blake
Ah, romance! Nothing like listening to love songs to get you in the mood for Valentine's Day. I like my love songs either a bit more on the cerebral side, or super cheesy. Gotta get started on a V-day playlist! Here's song 2 (not literally - that's the one Blur song I don't love):
Yay Dino! I'm off to hunt down some Timmy T next.
XOXO
Emily
