I know we're still slogging through cycle 16 (one episode to go!), but I've seen a bunch of blog posts about the cast of ANTM cycle 17 and thought I'd weigh in. Lots of love to my friend Donald who sent me a link to a blog this morning and inspired me to write this post. Here are the girls that are participating:
Shannon from cycle 1
I really don't remember much about this cycle other than Kimora being a judge.
Camille from cycle 2
No Shandi or Mercedes? Hopefully Camille doesn't tell Tyra any of the other contestants has an eating disorder this cycle. Also, I'm not trying to be age-ist here, but she's gotta be over 30 for sure. OMG - I hope cycle 18 is an old lady cycle! I'd try out for sure! I'm now picturing the finale of the "fiercely aged" ANTM cycle - and both finalists losing because Tyra would have a photo of herself in her hands.
Brittany from cycle 4
WHAT ABOUT TIFFANY? I was hoping she'd come back so that Tyra could yell at her some more. I like Brittany and I'm glad she's back, but they should have tried to get a couple of other girls from this cycle back too (Khalen, Rebecca, or even Michelle). Cycles 4 & 5 were the peak of awesome ANTM casting.
Bre from cycle 5
Nice! She's one of the front runners in this group for sure. Nobody better steal her granola bars!
Well, I guess since Jade turned Tyra down they had to bring back another of the "kooky" contestants. I'm definitely glad it's Lisa and not Jael. Hopefully there will be some sort of musical challenge so that Lisa can bust out something like this:
Bianca from cycle 9
This cycle was a snoooooooze. I guess if they had to bring back one contestant from cycle 9 they made the right choice, although I would love to see Heather back too. Bianca has lots of personality and is beautiful, so she'll do well.
Dominique from cycle 10
I can get behind casting Dominique in this cycle as she will likely bring the funny. Five bucks says they tried super hard to get Anya or Katarzyna instead.
Isis from cycle 11
I'm glad Isis is back. She is an example of a contestant getting "Tyra'd" in their cycle. That is, she received only positive feedback until all of the sudden the judges wondered about her "confidence" and then her photo was not in Tyra's hands. Same thing happened to Toccara (cycle 3), Heather (cycle 8), Sarah (cycle 9), Kasia (cycle 16) and many others. I hope she goes far in this all-star cycle.
Allison from cycle 12
I remember watching this cycle with my friends and everyone but me being super upset that Allison didn't win. I thought Teyona was more high-fashion looking, and I personally don't get why Allison is so popular. I'm sure lots of folks are happy she's cast, but I would much preferred them cast Celia or Aminat. I predict Alexandria or Angelea will make her cry (sorry!).
Laura from cycle 13
They picked someone from the short girl cycle! Nicole is really the only ANTM winner that I regularly see in print ads, so I guess that having the runner-up from her cycle on this show makes sense. Laura probably would win "Miss Congeniality" in this bunch and I remember her being pretty fun.
Angelea from cycle 14
Another yawner of a cycle. I'm actually surprised they cast anyone from this cycle as it was such "dreckitude".
Yay! I think she's going to win this whole thing!
Alexandria from cycle 16
She will do well if she leaves the bonnet at home. I'm pretty excited to see Alexandria again and hope she is just as crazy this time around.
All in all, I'd give the casting of this cycle a C-minus, only because I'm excited to see Bre, Kayla and Alexandria. I was really hoping to see some girls that would do well with the new focus on "high-fashion" (Kahlen, Anya, Aminat, Natasha from Cycle 8 or Fo from Cycle 12) but would have settled for some of my favourite drama queens (Melrose, Marvita or Fatima).
